Area History
Stump Sound
Onslow County, North Carolina Stump Sound
is an area of Onslow County,
NC, known for its delicious
oysters. In the early part of the 1900's the area was also well known for
peanuts.
It is here, in and around the area of Holly Ridge,
that my family of Kings entered around 1735. There were three John Kings
in this portion of Onslow
County during this time
period. The second John King was the father of Benejah, who is the line
of the Kings of the Folkstone and Sneads Ferry. John King, III, is my
line of Kings. There is another line of Kings in the Haws Run area of the
county, but I have been unable to make the connection through the King line.
My family left Holly
Ridge near the end of
1938 when we relocated to Richlands, where we lived for many years.
The area where our home was located became part of Camp Davis,
a U.S. Army base during the Second World War.
